Futsal is relatively new to the Alberta Soccer scene - and it's gaining popularity at an accelerated pace. New Futsal referees are joining in on the craze and there is growing pains amongst referees.
Similar to soccer - but with lots of complexities, the sport gained worldwide momentum and exceptional growth in South America. For referees, it means New signals, time counts, on-the-fly substitutions, Lead/Trailing positioning, required distances on restarts, wall management, foul counts, two penalty markings, goalkeeper clearances, goalkeeper "pass-backs" volunteer parents as scorekeepers, and a new take on cooperation and communication.
Come and learn more about Futsal from Provincial Instructor and Assessor Garth Elgie, who recently came back from Laval, QC where he attended a CSA Futsal Training program. Garth will share his newly acquired knowledge from the program, as well as sharing tips from his extensive Futsal career.
This will be a boardroom session at the Scouts Canada building - Gibson Room.
