13 CDSRA Members Involved in 2023 Futsal Canadian Championship!
The Calgary District Soccer Referees Association (CDSRA) is proud to celebrate the outstanding performance of its members at the 2023 Futsal Canadian Championship, which took place in Calgary from April 13-16 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre. The tournament brought together some of the best Futsal teams in Canada, and the CDSRA was thrilled to have its officials represent our association on the national stage.
The event featured 18 referees and 6 assessors, and the CDSRA was well represented with 13 of its members involved. Sebastian Richters and Harsimrit (Sim) Lakhyan officiated the Men's Gold Medal game as 3rd Referee and Timekeeper respectively, while Mazen Hassanin and Michael Mund officiated the Men's Bronze Medal Game as Referees 1 and 2 respectively. Zachary Romper (Referee 1), Gareth Kmet (Referee 2), Adam Benani (Referee 3) and Sunny Marshall (Timekeeper) officiated the Women's Bronze Medal game. Garth Elgie, Laurie Hastings, and Layne Greenway served as referee assessors and played a vital role in ensuring a high level of performance.
The CDSRA is particularly proud to note that this was the first-ever Futsal Canadian Championship to feature female teams, and Harsimrit (Sim) Lakhyan was part of a historic all-female crew that officiated at this championship. The CDSRA is committed to to promoting diversity and inclusion within the referee community and we are proud one of our members was part of this significant moment in Canadian futsal history.
The CDSRA would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Calgary United Soccer Association (CUSA) and Futsal Calgary for their support in bringing this tournament to Calgary and creating a platform for our local officials to showcase their skills. Without their dedication, this event would not have been possible.
Congratulations to all the officials, volunteers and staff involved in this successful tournament!
