CDSRA Announces 2025–2026 Leadership Team

The Calgary District Soccer Referees Association (CDSRA) is pleased to announce its 2025–2026 Leadership Team, elected and appointed following the Association’s Annual General Meeting on April 14, 2025, and the first Board meeting on April 28, 2025.

Laurie Darvill has been elected Vice-President. Laurie is a provincial referee assessor and instructor and previously served on the CDSRA Board. She was a key member of the CDSRA Women’s Referee Development Committee and helped organize the inaugural SheCAN Referee Event in September 2024. Laurie is a member of the Alberta Soccer Referee Development Team and brings experience from working with other non-profit organizations. Her leadership is expected to further strengthen the CDSRA’s commitment to referee development and inclusivity.

Austin Abiiba has been acclaimed as Secretary. Austin is a regional referee with a background in communications and previously served as the CDSRA Lead for Program Communications, where he demonstrated strong attention to detail and reliability. In addition to running his own business, he brings excellent organizational and communication skills that will enhance the Board’s operational effectiveness.

Martin Kuczaj has been acclaimed as an Elected Director. Martin previously served as an Appointed Director during the last term. With 26 years of accounting experience—particularly in the non-profit sector—alongside his work as an instructor and provincial referee, Martin’s expertise will help strengthen the CDSRA’s financial management and long-term planning efforts.

Guy Napert-Frenette has been appointed as a Director. Guy is an active referee assessor and brings significant professional experience in event planning, project management, strategic planning, and governance. His leadership in delivering the 2025 Advanced Referee Camp demonstrated his ability to execute major initiatives that drive referee development forward.

Brian Wong has been appointed as a Director. Brian is an active referee mentor and brings over 24 years of officiating experience. He has contributed to various aspects of the soccer community, including helping bring the 2023 and 2024 Futsal National Championships to Calgary. Brian has an extensive background in media and communications, and experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. He will continue to serve as the CDSRA’s Media and Communications Lead while providing additional input as a member of the Board.

The Board is further supported by the ongoing advice and guidance of its support and advisory volunteers, which includes social media committee members Adam Benani and Joshua Gall; RED Program leads Alexander Baryshev and Maureen Farrell; CARD Program Lead Cam Blair; Finance Committee member Toks Bakinson; and Women’s Development Committee member Shaelyn Holdaway.

Mazen Hassanin, CDSRA President, expressed his optimism about the Board’s composition, stating, "Our board members and support team bring a variety of experiences in the refereeing world, and each person brings a unique skill set that will allow the organization to continue to make an impact on the refereeing scene in the region."

With this robust team at the helm, the CDSRA is set to continue its mission, working with partners and stakeholders to elevate the standards of soccer officiating across Calgary and the surrounding region.
