Drew Fischer Appointed to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022!
HISTORY IN THE MAKING.
Congratulations to CDSRA Member Drew Fischer on his appointment to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Drew becomes the first Alberta official and first Canadian VAR to ever be appointed to a FIFA Men’s World Cup. Drew, 41, began his career refereeing local Calgary youth games at the age of 13 at CalGlen Soccer club, working his way up the local ranks before becoming a national list referee in 2007 at the age of 27. He officiated his first MLS game in August 2012 and has officiated in over 240 matches to date. He received his FIFA badge in 2015 and has gone on to officiate in several important continental and international matches and tournaments (highlighted below).
Off the field, Drew has continued to give back to his referee community, serving two terms on the CDSRA executive including a stint as the association’s Vice-President. He has also continued to be a mentor to many referees in the National program and has played an important role in helping develop the next crop of officials within Alberta which includes numerous CDSRA members.
Drew will attend three FIFA seminars this summer in preparation for the World Cup which will take place from November 21 to December 18. This will be Drew’s third FIFA World Cup following his appointments to the FIFA U17 World Cup Brazil 2019 [VAR] and the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 [VAR].
