CDSRA Announces 2024-2025 Leadership Team

 

Calgary, AB – April 17, 2024 – The Calgary District Soccer Referees Association (CDSRA) is pleased to announce its new Board of Directors and leadership team for the 2024-2025 year. This announcement follows the association's Annual General Meeting held on April 3, 2024, and its first board meeting held on April 16, 2024.

Leading the association is Mazen Hassanin, who assumes the role of President for the first time. His appointment marks a historic moment as he becomes the youngest and first president of a visible minority in the association's history. With a background in finance, and strategic development, he has been instrumental in the CDSRA's growth initiatives in previous years and is well-prepared to guide the organization forward.

Phillip Schrod has been newly elected as a Director for the 2024-2026 term. With his extensive background in Economics, Finance, and Public Administration coupled with his proficiency in project execution, Phillip brings a wealth of knowledge to the board. He also brings refereeing experience from British Columbia that will bring a unique perspective to the board.

Martin Kuczaj joins the board for the first time as an Appointed Director for 2024-2025. Martin’s 26 years of experience in accounting, particularly within nonprofit sectors, are complemented by his recent achievements as an acclaimed instructor and an upgraded regional referee. His appointment is expected to bolster the board’s financial oversight and strategic planning.

Jefferey Lockyer is also appointed as a Director for the first time for the 2024-2025 term. With a solid background in Computer Science and learned experiences in the nonprofit sector, Jefferey is well-equipped to contribute to the technological and structural advancement of the association.

The board is further strengthened by the ongoing advice and guidance of its support and advisory team which consists of former board members Laurie Hastings, Laurie Darvill, and Richard Sansregret, as well as Adam Benani, Garth Elgie, Shaelyn Holdaway, Joshua Gall, and Mustafa Abed.

Mazen Hassanin expressed his optimism about the board’s composition, stating, "Our new board members and support team bring a variety of experiences in the refereeing world, and each person brings a unique skill set that will allow the organization to grow further as we look to expand our offerings and improve referee outcomes at all levels in the region."

With this robust team at the helm, the CDSRA is set to continue its growth trajectory, aiming to work with its partners and stakeholders to elevate the standards of soccer officiating across Calgary and the province.
